Mayo University Hospital has postponed some elective procedures today.

The facility is extremely busy, with the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation reporting that there are 30 people currently waiting for a bed.

The HSE have stated that due to pressures on the site and bed capacity, the hospital is postponing some elective procedures.

Urgent, time sensitive cases are being prioritized, and patients are  being contacted directly if their procedure is being postponed.

Local Independent councillor , and vice chairperson of the HSE Regional Health Forum West committee, Michael Kilcoyne says that he cannot see any improvement in the near future, having recently been informed that the Emergency Department will not be extended until at least 2028.

Furthermore, cllr Kilcoyne says that the hospital is short of up to 30 nurses.
