Galway native, Sligo based GP, Dr Margaret Connolly, is among at least six Irish citizens on board a Gaza-bound aid flotilla who have been detained by Israel.
She is a sister of President Catherine Connolly.
Dr Margaret Connolly was sailing on the Blue Toys ship in the Global Sumud Flotilla when it was intercepted by Israeli forces off the coast of Cyprus.
Organisers say 52 civilian boats carrying 461 volunteers from 45 countries have been intercepted so far.
