Sinn Féin propose bill to tackle dereliction

The Dáil on Thursday held a debate on a bill seeking to strengthen Local Authority’s abilities to collect Derelict Site Levies.

Last month it was revealed that just €37,000 of the tax was collected by Mayo County Council, despite there being 245 properties listed on the Derelict Sites Register.

Department of Housing and Local Government figures show more than €20m in fees are outstanding from derelict property fines issued last year.

The Derelict Sites (Amendment) Bill 2022 was introduced to the Dáil by Sinn Féin and will be voted on this Wednesday.
