A Sligo-based Senator has challenged Junior Minister at the Department of Transport and Galway East TD Seán Canney on the competence of the Road Safety Authority.
During a meeting of the Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Labour Senator Nessa Cosgrove proposed the establishment of a “Road Safety Commission” which would work across multiple government departments.
The RSA has in recent years come under pressure with numerous groups calling for its disbanding, citing issues such as increases in road fatalities and longer driving test wait times.
