A Ballina Senator has said that gas should be harvested from Inishkea West given the volatility seen on the international market in recent times.
Fine Gael’s Mark Duffy has called for the site, located near the Corrib gas field, to be utilised “to mitigate the vulnerabilities” that currently exist.
It has been estimated that the area could supply around 60% of Ireland’s gas for about 10 years.
