A search operation is underway at Lough Corrib after a man in his 80s failed to return home from a fishing trip yesterday.
The man set out from Golden Bay pier, between Corr na Móna and Cong, on a small craft to fish in the Corrib.
It is understood that the man is from the Claremorris area, and his wife reported him missing when he did not return home.
Rescue boats have been on the water since 2:00am, joined by local fishermen and boaters from the Maigh Cuilinn area on the south side of the lake.
Coastguard units have been deployed to the scene, including helicopters Rescue 115 and Rescue 118.
The boat is described as small and grey with a red ‘upper streak’.
The Coast Guard have stated that the search operation is ongoing this afternoon.
