A strong call has been made for the immediate implementation of the Safe Staffing Framework at Mayo University Hospital.
Deputy Paul Lawless says that he has received alarming reports of chronic understaffing and dangerously high patient volumes in the hospital’s Emergency Department, and is urging the Health Minister to intervene.
According to Deputy Lawless, audits have been completed and submitted to the national Safer Staffing Team, yet MUH is still awaiting allocation and sign-off from the Department of Health.
He says the delay is putting both patients and frontline staff at serious risk.
