RTÉ to appear before Oireachtas committee

RTÉ is to appear before the Oireachtas Public Accounts Committee today where it is expected to say that TV licence payments have decreased by 5% so far this year.

The public broadcaster will be updating the committee on “significant reforms” that have been implemented as well as discussing its financial situation.

Reports yesterday indicated RTÉ is to tell TDs it will need €13.49m in additional State funding this year, however that claim was refuted by Director General Kevin Backhurst, who said the broadcaster is not looking for any additional public funding “beyond the commitment already provided by the Government”.
