A Roscommon TD has today welcomed the EU’s decision to extend Ireland’s nitrates derogation for a further three years, describing it as a “sensible and balanced step that recognises the realities of farming life in rural Ireland.”
Michael Fitzmaurice of Independent Ireland says this derogation is of vital significance to West of Ireland farmers particularly around the pressure on land.
Deputy Fitzmaurice says with regards to the spreading of slurry the government have double standards.
