Some roads will have to be removed from Mayo County Council’s roadworks programme due to the increased cost of materials as a result of rising oil prices.
Members of the Westport-Belmullet Municipal District were told at a recent meeting that costs have increased by 30% since the budget for this year was set and no extra funding will now be provided for.
The announcement was made by the Senior Executive Engineer with Mayo County Council, Heather Gibbons, and was received with disappointment from councillors.
