The Irish Society for Prevention and Cruelty to Animals (ISPCA), has issued an appeal for homes for 25 animals that are currently in their care.
Among the ponies, horses and donkeys that they currently care for is a racehorse who was recently discovered in a very concerning state in County Galway.
The racehorse, named ‘Dash’, was rescued last October when he was found tied to a fence in Ballinasloe.
Speaking to Agriland, ISPCA’s head of animal welfare Denise McCausland said that Dash was “in an emaciated condition and covered in sores”.
“Through his microchip, it was established that Dash was on the racecourse as recently as last July”, she continued.
It was discovered that he was sold on when he was not racing well, and passed through many hands before being rescued by the ISPCA.
It is understood that he has won over €20,000 in his racing career.
The ISCPA is urging the public to report any suspicions of animal cruelty, neglect or abuse to its confidential helpline at 0818 515 515.
