The nutritional value of the hot primary school meals will be reviewed by an expert.
The review follows concerns raised about the potential meals on offer, such as ‘creamy carbonara’ or ‘chicken fillet rolls’.
The meal scheme is already being provided to more than 2,000 schools and is set to expand by a further 713.
There will also be an option of three meals daily in schools delivered to 475,000 children nationally.
