Public want Ireland’s neutrality protected

It is the will of the Irish public to see Ireland’s neutrality protected.

That’s according to Mayo Sinn Fein TD, Rose Conway-Walsh, who is the chair of the Oireachtas committee on defence and national security.

It comes following the publication of committee’s report on pre-legislative scrutiny of the defence (amendment) bill.

The committee’s report highlights 25 recommendations, however it has also explicitly not recommended removing the triple-lock.

She believes that the triple-lock, and Irish neutrality should be enshrined within the constitution, and has also pointed out at the 8-week period provided for her committee to provide this report, saying it was too short a time period.
