On-the-ground works have begun at Tuam station as part of the restoration of the Western Rail Corridor.
Vegetation is being cleared and the rail bed is being prepared as part of early enabling work for the Athenry-Claremorris section of the train line, which was recently announced as a targeted priority in the Department of Transport’s Sectoral Plan.
Minister of State for International & Road Transport, Logistics, Rail and Ports, and Galway East TD, Seán Canney said, “This is the first physical step towards restoring rail services through Tuam and onto Claremorris, from Athenry, reconnecting Galway and Mayo and strengthening the West’s transport network.”
