A planning appeal has been refused for 19 apartments in Castlebar.
The proposed development at the Pontoon and Turlough Road junction was initially denied planning permission by Mayo County Council last year but was appealed.
Among the reasons for the refusal of the appeal were that the planned apartments were too dense so as to constitute overdevelopment.
An Coimisiún Pleanála also referenced that the complex would be visually intrusive by way of its height, design, and scale, and that the lack of parking would create “serious traffic congestion” and “would be contrary to the proper planning and sustainable development of the area”.
