A Sligo-based private hospital plans to move to a new care model.
Kingsbridge Private Hospital plans to change its model to exclude overnight stays, with all new care provisions at the sight now being day cases.
All patients with scheduled procedures have been contacted directly and where possible, these will be carried out in Sligo.
Alternative arrangements will be offered to remaining patients.
In a meeting last Thursday, staff were informed that a number of workers are at risk of redundancy as the site becomes an ambulatory care centre.
83 individuals are currently employed at Kingsbridge Sligo.
Yesterday, Fianna Fáil TD Eamon Scanlon, as well as Ministers of State Frank Feighan and Marian Harkin, held a meeting with the hospital’s management.
The care firm also said as part of the upcoming changes, around 3 million euro is to be invested in the Sligo facility, which included plans for the installation of a CT scanner towards the end of this year. It was also highlighted that services such as MRI, endoscopy, the pain clinic, urology and others will remain in the Sligo site.
Midwest Radio contacted Kingsbridge for comment, and received the following response:

As part of this transition to a new care model, a number of roles may be impacted. The Company is engaging directly with those affected and is committed to exploring retraining and redeployment opportunities at the upgraded facility, and to supporting all employees fully throughout the process.”
