Parents of young children are being urged to be on the look out for the symptoms of RSV as the country approaches peak season for the respiratory virus.
Up to 90 per cent of young children are infected with RSV by the age of two and the virus is the leading cause of respiratory tract infections in babies.
According to the HSE, symptoms of RSV can often resemble a cold at the beginning.
Dr Máire Finn from Ennis Centric Health says the virus will be at its most active in the coming months.
