More than 1.6 millIon euro was paid to elected councillors on Mayo County Council last year (2024) in remuneration payments for a range of expenses.
Three outgoing elected councillors of the authority each received in excess of 100,000 euro in remuneration payments last year.
Knockmore based, Seamus Weir, who opted not contest the local elections last June, received 119,000 euro.
Ballyhaunis based John Cribben, who also did not run in the 2024 local elections, received 114,000 euro.
Claremorris based, Tom Connolly, who failed to secure a seat in last June’s election received 111,000 euro.
The highest payment to a sitting councillor was to Crossmolina based Michael Loftus of 80,200 euro.
The lowest payment last year, was to a first time June elected councillor, Knockmore based, Joe Faughnan of 15,100 euro.
Remuneration payment to members includes local representation allowance, vouched and unvouched expenses, conferences training in Ireland, Cathaoir/Leas allowance including municipal districts, expenses for travel abroad, SPC payments, audit committee payments, security allowance and gratuities.
