Over 3,000 drivers were caught speeding over the May Bank Holiday Weekend.
A Garda Roads Policing Operation was conducted from 7:00am Thursday morning, May 1, until 7:00am this morning.
During this period there were two fatalities on Irish roads, while six serious collisions resulted in six people sustaining severe and life-threatening injuries.
Gardaí, over the course of the operation, conducted more than 1,000 Mandatory Intoxicant Testing (MIT) checkpoints.
Following 13,000 breath tests and around 280 oral fluid tests, 187 arrests were made for driving under the influence of an intoxicant.
Over 3,000 were detected to be driving over the speed limit, which included a motorist travelling at 151 km/h in a 100 km/h zone in Drumfin, Co. Sligo.
Hundreds of fixed charges were also issued over the weekend.
Over 270 drivers were caught using mobile phones, over 340 were unaccompanied learner drivers, with 115 found to be not wearing a seatbelt.
147 vehicles were seized from learner permit holders driving unaccompanied.
444 vehicles were seized for having no tax or insurance.
