October warmer than average

October was warmer than average, was very dull and had above average rainfall in most parts of the country.

Met Éireann’s climate statement for last month shows the Mount Dillon weather station in Roscommon saw 168 percent of its usual rain totals.

The highest one-day rainfall recorded was at Valentia Observatory in Kerry, with just over 48 millimetres on the 2nd of October.

Last month also contained the first named storm of the season, Amy brought a 10 minute mean wind speed of 111 kilometres per hour to Malin Head in Donegal.
