New national record figure for homelessness

15,418 people were accessing emergency accommodation at the end of March.

That’s an increase of 40 on the previous month and a new record.

More than 10,700 adults and over 4,600 children were accessing Emergency Accommodation at the end of March.

In total 15,418 people were homeless, that’s up on February’s figure of 15,378.

Figures from the Department of Housing show more than fifteen hundred families were homeless in Dublin, the highest figure nationwide.

That was followed by the mid-west with 142 families and the Mid East with 117.

Since March last year there has been an increase of 11% in the number of people homeless.
