The circus is coming back to the county town next week, and a solution to the ongoing saga of a suitable site for the visit has been resolved for this occasion.
The last time the circus was in Castlebar it was located at a site in Milebush, which was described, afterwards by local Castlebar councillor Ger Deere as “unsuitable” and “potentially dangerous”.
The Fine Gael councillor again called on the local authority to find an alternative, safer site to keep the circus tradition alive and thriving in Castlebar.
Posters for the circus went up at the weekend. It will be in Castlebar from Wed next (Mar11th) to St Patrick’s Day (Mar17th)
Councillor Deere was adamant that a safer location than the Milebush site be secured for both the Circus itself and for those attending. He suggested a number of alternative sites to the local authority and it has now been confirmed by Council Official David Mellette that on this occasion the Military Barracks in Castlebar town will be used to accommodate the event.
