Most Mountain Rescue callouts on Croagh Patrick

Over 90% of recent callouts to Mayo Mountain Rescue occurred on Croagh Patrick.

That’s according to the most recent figures from the group ahead of the 60th anniversary celebrations of Mountain Rescue Ireland.

The celebrations coincide with the Mayo Mountain Rescue AGM which begins this evening in the Westport Woods Hotel and runs over the course of the weekend.

Of the callouts recorded, seven were helicopter assisted, while ten required the use of stretchers.

Seven head injuries were recorded among the incidents, and there was also one issue of hypothermia.

The most commonly recorded issue was climber fatigue, of which there were 11 reported cases.

Among the other incidents were one spinal injury, a cardiac arrest, two medical emergencies and eight lower limb injuries.
