Mixed farming reaction to Budget 2026

There has been a mixed reaction across the Farming Sector to Budget 2026.

The budget, revealed yesterday afternoon by Ministers Pascal Donohoe and Jack Chambers, did not do enough for those involved in the agricultural sector. That’s according to multiple farming bodies.

Irish Cattle and Sheep Farmers’ Association President Sean McNamara has said while the Budget did contain some positives, it did not go far enough to deal with the pressures faced by farmers involved in all aspects of the industry:

 

Meanwhile, the Irish Creamery Milk Suppliers Association, a family farm organization, says the overwhelming feeling of farmers will be disappointment, after hearing yesterday’s package. Their President Denis Drennan, believes the disappointment will center on failure to deal with income volatility:

 

Francie Gorman, President of the Irish Farmers Association, says the farming measures in Budget 2026 are “decidedly underwhelming”, and do not help with the increasing cost of doing business in Ireland today:
