The presentation of a Distinguished Service Medal for the late Private Billy Kedian will take place this weekend.
The Ballyhaunis man died while saving the lives of 14 colleagues, when they came under armed attack from Hezbollah militants in south Lebanon during a tour of duty in 1999.
He was 21 years old at the time.
The medal, which is one of the highest that he State can award, will be given to his family at a ceremony tomorrow, the 8th of March.
Only 29 of these have been awarded to date.
As well as the official presentation ceremony, the honour will be marked in his home town of Ballyhaunis at a later date.
