A protest is taking place in Athlone today against the Mercosur trade deal, which was approved by the EU Council on Friday.
The European Parliament is yet to vote on the trade deal with South America, which was opposed by Ireland, and a handful of other member states, over concerns about the quality of imported beef.
The demonstrations will involve a convoy of mainly agricultural vehicles from the N61 Roscommon Road, along the N6 travelling eastbound from Junction 12 to Junction 10, and along the N55 towards the R916, Cornamaddy roundabout.
Independent Ireland will be in attendance at the protest.
