Midlands North West MEP Ciaran Mullooly has welcomed recent progress by the European Commission on the simplification of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP).
He has described the development as a “step in the right direction” for farmers across Ireland and Europe.
The Commission’s proposals, according to MEP Mullooly, recognise that farmers impacted by GAEC 2 should be eligible for payments based on income foregone.
A planned reduction in on-farm inspections and increased support for new generation farmers are also being welcomed.
