Figures released by the Department of Housing show that more than 2,000 homes have been brought back into residential use as part of the vacant property refurbishment grant scheme.
More than 12,400 applications were received across the country for the grants, up to the end of March. €112.5 million has been paid out to a total of 2,096 applicants.
The grant is worth €50,000 for a building that has been vacant for more than two years. In cases where the building is completely derelict, the grant raises to €70,000.
Donegal County Council has received the largest amount of applications, with the 1,114 applications there seeing 811 approvals, amounting to some €2.5 million in pay outs in 2025.
The money is paid out upon completion of works.
Cork County Council is second in the list, with 797 approvals out of its 1,063 applications. 152 of these grants have been paid, totaling €3.2 million thus far this year.
The third highest number of applications was received by Mayo County Council, with 740 applications leading to 116 grant payouts so far. The total amount paid out to Mayo from January up until the end of March was €1.3 million.
