The death has taken place of Mayo playwright Michael Joe Ginnelly.
A native of Bunnahowna, Mulranny, his best known work is the play ‘A Wake in the West’, which has been brought to many stages across the country.
Another of Mr. Ginnelly’s works, ‘Pretend Stick’, is due to be performed by the Bonniconlon Amateur Drama Society this forthcoming weekend at The Grove.
He died peacefully at Galway University Hospital yesterday (Sunday), after a short illness.
Mr. Ginnelly is survived by son Thomas and daughter Ann Marie, extended family and wide circle of friends.
He will repose at his residence tomorrow (Tuesday) evening from 4:00pm until 7:00pm.
Removal to the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Mulranny on Wednesday morning for mass at 10:30am.
Cremation to follow in Shannon Crematorium at 3:00pm.
