Farmers in Mayo have been warned that Connacht could face a loss of around 460 million euro in the next round of the Common Agricultural Policy if current proposals are not changed.
The warning was given at an IFA Connacht regional meeting in Claremorris.
IFA Connacht Regional Chair Brendan Golden says Mayo alone could lose around 131 million euro under the proposals.
IFA President Francie Gorman told the meeting that the next two months will be critical in efforts to secure a CAP budget that will protect the future of Irish family farms.
He is encouraging farmers to learn more about the proposed changes and to contact their local, national and European representatives.
The IFA says CAP payments play a vital role in supporting both agriculture and rural communities, and that any significant reduction in funding could have a major impact on farm incomes and the wider rural economy.
The organisation is continuing to lobby for changes to the proposed CAP budget, following meetings with European farming representatives and Minister for European Affairs Thomas Byrne in Dublin this week.
