The Mary Robinson Centre has announced the launch of a new all-island project aimed at encouraging more sustainable food practices through community action.
The initiative, called The Messages, is being delivered in partnership with Hinterland CLG, Project Dandelion and artist Victoria McCormack, with support from the Women’s Resource Development Agency, Studio Idir and Brink in Northern Ireland.
The project has secured funding under the latest Creative Climate Action Fund, one of just 11 initiatives selected nationwide.
The programme will focus on the role food plays in tackling climate change, bringing together women from communities across the island to promote more sustainable ways of growing, sharing and using food.
A key element of the project will see Creative Food Facilitators trained alongside climate specialists, artists, scientists and food growers. They will work within their local communities to encourage practical changes, including reducing food waste, increasing the use of seasonal produce and promoting food sharing initiatives.
Organisers say the project aims to create long-term, community-led approaches that can be replicated across Ireland, helping communities become more resilient while taking positive action on climate change.
