Junior Minister for the Diaspora Neale Richmond is travelling to Canada today – meeting political and business leaders in Montréal, Ottawa and Toronto.
He’ll launch Ireland’s new Sports Diplomacy and Diaspora strategies during the four-day trip.
The visit comes ahead of Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney’s arrival in Ireland next weekend.
Prime Minister Carney will also visit county Mayo during his Irish visit.
He’ll meet Taoiseach Micheál Martin in Dublin, in what will be the first official visit of a Canadian prime minister to Ireland in nearly a decade.
Mr. Carney, whose ancestors hail from Aughagower, Westport will then travel to Mayo, where he’ll meet President Catherine Connolly.
Further details of the visit have not yet been released, but Mr Carney’s office says he’ll focus on deepening the long-standing cultural ties between both countries, as well as expanding ties across agri-food, digital innovation, AI, pharmaceuticals, and climate.
