Tributes have been paid this lunchtime to the man who died following an accident on Clare Island yesterday.
Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of a single-vehicle fatal road traffic collision that occurred at Glen, Clare Island.
A car entered the water at around 1pm and the driver, a man aged in his 80s, was pronounced dead at the scene.
His body was removed to Mayo University Hospital.
He has been named locally as 88 year old Charles O’Malley, the proprietor of O’Malley Ferries.
He has been remembered as a pillar of the community and a great story teller.

Charles will repose at Sweeney’s Funeral Home, Louisburgh on Thursday from 5:00pm until 7:00pm, followed by removal to his home via Roonagh Pier.
He will repose at his home in Strake from 9:30pm on Thursday night.
Charles will be laid to rest on Friday following mass at the Church of the Sacred Heart, Clare Island at 1:00pm.
