A man from County Sligo who killed a nine year old boy while driving at twice the speed limit, and then fled the scene, going on a drugs and drink binge, has been sentenced today to five years in prison with a 20 year disqualification from driving.

Sergee Kelly, of Upper Mullaghmore, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving causing the death of Ronan Wilson at Atlantic Way, Bundoran, Co. Donegal, on September 23 2023.

He was driving at a speeds of between 105 km/h and 110 km/h in a 50km/h zone, when he hit Ronan Wilson, of Kildress, Co. Tyrone, who was out walking with two other children.

The car struck Ronan Wilson with such force that he was moved 58 meters from the point of impact, according to an RTÉ report today.

Sergee Kelly pleaded guilty to failing to stop, failing to offer assistance and failing to remain at the scene of the incident in which Ronan Wilson lost his life.

The court heard that he went back into Bundoran to meet friends after the incident. He proceeded to visit a number of pubs and an amusement arcade, while drinking alcohol and taking cocaine. He later took a taxi home.

At today’s court meeting, Judge John Aylmer said had Kelly been driving within the speed limit, there would have been a very good chance of Ronan escaping without significant injury.
