A man has been convicted of murdering his mother in County Sligo two years ago.
Angela Canavan (58 at the time) was found dead on the ground floor of her home on St. John’s Terrace in Sligo Town on May 1 2023.
Her son, 39 year old Nigel Canavan, had pleaded not guilty to her murder, claiming sefl-defence.
The trial has been ongoing for almost two weeks at the Central Criminal Court, with a jury of ten women and two men rejecting Mr. Canavan’s claim.
It is expected that he will be handed the mandatory term of life imprisonment, at a second hearing on June 3.
On the same date, it is expected that Ms. Canavan’s other son, Keith Canavan, will make statement to the court.
