Mammogram services for patients in Mayo will be closer to home shortly, with confirmation from the HSE that the service will resume at Castlebar Primary Care Centre on 16 June.

Minister of State and Mayo Fine Gael TD Alan Dillon says the confirmation will bring relief to many who were worried by the temporary suspension of the service at the Primary Care Centre and as a result, the need to travel to Galway for appointments.

He had raised the matter directly with the HSE and the Minister for Health’s office after receiving a number of representations from constituents.

The HSE has confirmed to him that appointments were temporarily redirected to Galway while cover was being arranged. A permanent radiographer has now been recruited and is due to take up the post in 2026, with efforts continuing to secure temporary cover in the meantime.

Minister Dillon says he’s pleased that a permanent appointment has been made and commits  to press the HSE to ensure the Castlebar service resumes as planned on 16 June, and that proper staffing is in place to protect the long-term future of mammogram services in Mayo.
