Almost every school in the country is now using unqualified teachers.

It’s because of a chronic shortage of teachers, especially in the greater Dublin area.

The Irish Times is quoting figures from TG4 showing almost 9 thousand people without qualifications were working in 3000 – or 98% – of primary schools in the 2023/24 academic year.

At second level there were 4,600 unqualified teachers in classrooms at 472 schools.
