Independent TD for Galway East, Minister Seán Canney,  welcomed the Department of Education’s approval for the Athenry Campus school project to proceed to tender.

The project, which falls under the Large-Scale Capital Programme, will see significant investment in local educational infrastructure, delivering:

A new 450-pupil post-primary school for Coláiste an Eachréidh, including three Special Educational Needs (SEN) classrooms.

A new 16-class primary school for Gaelscoil Riada, incorporating two SEN classrooms.

Minister Canney emphasised the importance of investing in modern, high-quality learning environments, particularly for students requiring additional educational supports.

With this approval, the project will now advance to the tendering stage, where a contractor will be appointed to commence construction. Following the selection process, a Letter of Intent will be issued, with a 14-day standstill period before the formal Letter of Acceptance is granted by the Department of Education.
