A major fire broke out in Carrick-on-Shannon last night which has since been brought under control.

The blaze was reported by a passerby at the boardwalk jetty, opposite the Landmark Hotel, at around 9.15pm tonight, with two boats on fire.

It’s believed the blaze started on one boat and then spread to the other one.

No injuries have been reported and the blaze was brought under control just after midnight.

The boardwalk jetty has been sealed off by Gardai and a forensic examination will take place later this morning.
