Macra Na Feirme says young farmers won’t have a future if changes are made to the nitrate derogation scheme.
The model, which allows Irish farmers extra allowances on the use of chemicals, expires at the end of the year, with the EU set to vote on new limits for 2026 onwards.
The Agriculture Minister heard from farming representatives this week who want to see the current model stay in order to keep Ireland competitive.
