Loftus elected chair of new safety partnership

A Crossmolina-based councillor has been elected as chair of Mayo’s new Local Community Safety Partnership.

Michael Loftus, Fianna Fáil Councillor for Ballina, will head up the new body, which replaced the former Joint Policing Committee.

Each LCSP – of which there are 37 nationwide – will develop and implement a community safety plan that is specific to its area.

They will fulfil a similar role to JPCs, but questions have been raised about restrictions on the presence of the press at meetings.
