Pope Leo the 14th will begin his first full day as leader of the Catholic Church today.
Robert F Prevost emerged as Pope Francis’ successor yesterday, following 4 votes by cardinals in the Sistine Chapel.
The 69 year old was selected from a group of 133 cardinals and will become the first ever North American Pope to lead the church.
A native of Chicago, he has spent many years in Peru in South America.
PP of Knock Fr Richard Gibbons says he thought it would take longer to elect a pope this time around, due to the larger number of cardinals.
