The Law Society is calling for mediation to help the ongoing criminal legal aid dispute.
It comes as more then 100 Dublin defence solicitors have voted to continue their withdrawal of services this month.
The Law Society says the dispute is causing severe disruption for victims, defendants and other court users.
Solicitors are opposing a new system which pays a flat fee of €520 per legal aid case, regardless of how many court appearances are required.
According to the Irish Examiner, society president Rosemarie Loftus has written to Justice Minister Jim O’Callaghan, urging him to appoint an independent mediator.
The Society says the changes fail to take account of more complex cases and have contributed to growing court backlogs.
The Minister has previously rejected mediation and is awaiting a High Court judgment on the reforms later this month.
