A large-scale search operation for a suspected missing person is currently ongoing off the coast of Donegal today involving a UK Royal Navy Fleet auxiliary vessel.
Rescue teams, including local lifeboats, the Irish Coast Guard, and aircraft from both the Coast Guard and the Air Corps, are involved in this operation.
In a statement, The Coast Guard have said “The Irish Coast Guard’s Marine Rescue Co-ordination Centre in Malin Head received a distress alert from a UK Naval support vessel just before 9am this morning”
That alert was for a missing crew member on board, who was last seen at approximately 10:30pm last night.
The search is taking place off the northwest coast between Tory Island, Co. Donegal and Eagle Island, Co. Mayo
The vessel was located north of Tory Island when the alert was raised.
A search is also being co-ordinated at sea by the UK Naval support vessel and 3 RNLI all weather lifeboats based at Ballyglass, Arranmore Island and Lough Swilly. Other vessels of opportunity are also involved in the search.
