Up to 40 acres of forestry is under threat of being destroyed in the Gorthaganny area of West Roscommon.
Several units of the fire service are currently tackling a large scale forest fire, which broke out this afternoon.
The fire is continuing to spread, with the aid of strong winds, and high plumes of smoke can be seen from miles away.
Local fire fighting personnel are working to bring the blaze under control and stop it spreading further to nearby homes.
Wildfires have also been reported in the Charlestown and Ballaghaderreen areas this evening.
