A long running dispute between a farming couple and a leading west of Ireland soccer club over right of way access has been resolved, the Circuit Civil Court, sitting in Castlebar, heard yesterday.

John and Kathleen Mullarkey claimed they have a right of way along a strip of land between two pitches at the Cloonfad United soccer ground which they need to use constantly for the purpose of feeding livestock.

Their civil action against the Club trustees, members and committee was due to get underway yesterday at Castlebar Circuit Civil Court but, following talks between the legal teams for both sides, Judge Garavan was told the matter has been settled.

Full terms of the agreement reached are to be handed  to Judge Garavan.

The Mullarkeys (plaintiffs) claimed a right of way for vehicular access on a strip of land between two pitches which are closely adjacent.

The plot of ground is used as a sideline area where players regularly warm up.

Cloonfad United operate two pitches on a ten acre site on the Mayo/Roscommon border and their grounds benefits communities in Mayo, Roscommon and parts of Galway.
