A county Mayo flute maker will feature on national television tomorrow evening (Fri).

Michael Cronnolly from Killasser has become well known for crafting traditional Irish flutes from his workshop just outside Swinford.

Almost five decades ago, Michael made his very first flute from the spoke of a cartwheel in his garden shed. Since then, he has dedicated himself to perfecting his craft and today his instruments are being played in sessions and on stages around the world.

Determined to ensure the tradition continues,he is now teaching his grandson Ross the skills of flute making. Having first started out in 1975, he hopes the craft will continue for generations to come in East Mayo.

Nationwide reporter Tommy Stenson recently visited Michael’s workshop in Killasser and Michael will feature on Nationwide on RTÉ One at 7pm tomorrow, Friday evening, 20th February.
