The Irish Natura & Hill Farmer Association (INHFA) will today hold a protest outside AG House in Dublin.
This is in response to Good Agricultural Environmental Conditions proposals (GAEC 2), that will see over 100,000ha of mineral soils being wrongly classified in an EU standard, that should only be for peatlands and wetlands.
Last Wednesday, an open letter was sent to Agricultural Minister Martin Heydon, signed by National Chair of the INHFA Pheilim Molloy.
In the letter, the organisation expressed their ‘extreme dissatisfaction’ with the Minister’s position on the proposal, stating:
“As a Minister your decision to support a position that extends far beyond the legal requirements laid down by the European Union is both unacceptable and unjust.”
The protest will be held this morning at 11:30am.
