Figures show the West has seen a rise in the number of people accessing grants for electric vehicles.
Roscommon Fine Gael Senator Gareth Scahill has provided figures, ranging from 2021 to 2026, concerning the number of people accessing grants relevant to electric vehicles.
These include a number of different funding streams, ranging from money towards the purchase of a vehicle to the installation of a home charger.
So far in 2026, Roscommon is the only county in the province to see a rise on last year, up from 122 to 147. However, taking into account the figures from 2021 to 2025, every county in the region has seen an increase.
In Mayo, 198 people availed of grants in 2021, while last year the total reached 264. So far this year, that number is 241.
For Galway it’s a similar story. In 2021, 528 grants were drawn down relating to EVs. Last year, it was 592.
