A Mayo councillor has described illegal dumping at clothing banks in her local area as a “total scourge” and has called for the issue to be addressed.
Ballyhaunis Fine Gael councillor Alma Gallagher says that she has been inundated with complaints about the issue in Knock, Ballyhaunis and Claremorris in particular.
She raised the matter at last week’s Claremorris Swinford Municipal District meeting, noting that the clothes banks were attracting rodents from people dumping their household waste in the wrong place.
Cllr Gallagher wants to see a county-wide CCTV committee established to help combat the issue, but much more than this needs to be done.
